The Reference Center for Oncohematological Diseases treats patients with rare blood diseases.

The center is an integral service of the hospital that has close links with other centers and structural units. This ensures access to the most advanced diagnostic technologies and methods of treatment. The center cooperates with National Center of Pathology (NCP) in order to ensure the availability of all necessary diagnostic technologies to patients. The center of Oncohematological Diseases uses the most advanced diagnostic methods in Lithuania. Department of General Hematology of VUL SK provides all types of chemotherapy. The bone marrow transplantation department performs hematopoietic stem cell transplantations. Patients are provided with all the necessary specialist consultations. If critical conditions develop during treatment, patients are treated in the Intensive Care Unit. Systematic collection and analysis of patient data is essential for the provision of services to patients with rare diseases, the assessment of treatment outcomes and pooling of experience. The Reference Center for Oncohematological Diseaseshas developed a database of patients with oncohematological diseases which is an integral part of the Hematology Monitoring System. This database contains information on patient demographics, diagnosis, important tests performed, treatment applied, and treatment outcomes. This database with the consent of the patients collects information on patient demographics, diagnosis, important tests performed, treatment applied, and treatment outcomes.

Training

The Reference Center for Oncohematological Diseasesprovides ongoing training for staff, as well as education for patients and other healthcare professionals. The specialists regularly participate in international conferences and learn about new treatment and diagnostic methods. The Center actively participates in the activities of the Lithuanian Society of Hematologists, organizes scientific-practical conferences with Lithuanian and foreign specialists. The staff teaches students of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University and prepares residents doctors of hematology.

Cooperation

The center actively cooperates with foreign scientists, and the physicians working in the reference center are members of international organizations EBMT, WMDA. We are partners of HOVON, EORTC, NOPHO, NMG, ELN research groups.
